Chandrapur. Prominent leader and environment minister of Maharashtra Pankaja Munde When she arrived on Thursday to take stock of Chandrapur, which is one of the most polluted districts of the state, she herself was stunned to see the situation there. The horrors of pollution can be gauged from the fact that the minister’s gleaming white luxury BMW car turned completely black due to dust and coal soot within a few hours.

This incident is not just about a car getting dirty, but it tells the story of the ‘suffocating’ struggle of lakhs of people of Chandrapur, which they are forced to live every day.

Inspection exposed: Industries running by ignoring rules

Minister Pankaja Munde conducted a thorough inspection of Durgapur-based Chandrapur Thermal Power Station (CSTPS), Mahamaya Coal Washery and Vidarbha Minerals Energy Company of Ghuggus. During this time, amidst the claims of development, the dark truth of flying dust and open transportation of coal was clearly visible.

The air quality in industrial areas was so bad that the vehicles in the minister’s convoy were covered with thick layers of dust within minutes. According to eyewitnesses, it became difficult to recognize the color of the white vehicles. Seeing this scene, the minister himself and the top officials accompanying him were surprised.

AQI crosses 400: even breathing becomes difficult

Environmental experts have given serious warning regarding the situation in Chandrapur. environmentalist Pro. Suresh Chopne informed that in the areas visited by the Minister, the Air Quality Index (AQI) is often 400 It remains in the ‘extremely dangerous’ category.

Major reasons: Coal power plants, coal washeries and uncontrolled mining activities.

Health effects: Local people are suffering from problems like respiratory diseases, lung infections and eye irritation. This is having the worst impact on the health of children.

Minister’s tough stance: “Strict action will be taken against those who break the rules”

Considering the seriousness of the situation, Pankaja Munde has adopted a tough stance. He has given clear instructions to the officials that notices should be issued immediately to all the industries which are violating the pollution control standards.

“I was aware of the problem in Chandrapur, but the actual situation is much more serious. Strict action will be taken against the guilty factories and immediate measures will be implemented to reduce pollution.” – Pankaja Munde, Environment Minister

People of Chandrapur now hope for improvement

Chandrapur is considered to be the most polluted district of Maharashtra. The biggest problems here are transportation of coal in open trucks and lack of water sprinklers. Local residents say that they have been raising their voice against this poisonous air for years, but now for the first time a minister has come to the ground level and realized this ‘dark reality’.

Experts say that if measures like covering trucks, installing dust curtains and regular spraying are not made mandatory, Chandrapur’s future could be even bleaker.
