Paris: The Olympics will officially begin in Paris tomorrow. According to the Olympic Organising Committee, the opening ceremony will be the most spectacular in the history of the Olympics. It will begin at 11.00 pm IST tomorrow night and will last for four hours.

Although all opening ceremonies have been held at the Olympic Stadium, this is the first Games in which the athletes will march past on the River Seine in Paris in a line of 80 boats, with the athletes of the participating nations saluting with their national flags.

In this way, boats will pass through a six kilometre stretch of the river and spectators will sit facing the river in this area to watch the opening ceremony.

Paris is developed in such a way that this six kilometer route is lined with museums, churches and world tourist attractions and monuments, including the magnificent Eiffel Tower. Spectator blocks have also been built at all these places.

An estimated 3 lakh spectators will enjoy the opening ceremony in front of or on 80 giant screens installed in the arena. The first two hours of the opening ceremony will be in sunlight, while the last two hours will have a stunning view of sunset and night. The Olympics will conclude on August 11. 206 countries' 10,500 athletes will compete for medals in 329 events in 32 sports.

The opening ceremony will be attended by 80 heads of state or their representatives, including French President Emmanuel Macron. London hosted the Olympics in 1908, 1940 and 2012. Paris had earlier hosted the Olympics in 1900 and 1924. Thus Paris will become the second city after London to host the Olympics three times. Paris will spend $9 billion to host this Olympics.

117 players from India are to participate in 16 sports. America has won 1070 gold medals out of 2635 medals, which is the highest in Olympic history. The Soviet Union has won 204 medals, Germany 932 medals and Great Britain 950 medals.

China has been competing with America for the last three Olympics.

This time there will be a competition to win 329 medals in the Olympics. In the Tokyo Olympics, America had 39 gold medals and China had 38 gold medals.

India won one gold, two silver and four bronze medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, their best appearance ever.

In the history of Olympics, India has won 10 gold, 9 silver and 16 bronze medals in hockey, 8 in team event and 2 in individual event. Thus, India has won 35 medals in the history of Olympics. Let's see if India is able to reach double figures in winning medals?
