A serious incident that puts the security system and humanity to shame has come to light in Janeshwar Mishra Park, one of the largest parks in Asia, located in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. On Wednesday, a young man who had come to the park with his wife and children was brutally beaten with a shoe by the security guard posted there.
An alleged video of the incident quickly went viral on social media, causing a stir in the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) administration. Considering the seriousness of the matter, LDA has removed the accused guard from his job with immediate effect.
Controversy started regarding ticket checking
According to eyewitnesses and media reports, a family (a young man, his wife and child) was entering the park after purchasing proper tickets. Meanwhile, an altercation started between the guard posted at the gate and the youth regarding ticket checking at the main gate.
It is alleged that the guard used abusive and indecent language with the young man, which further escalated the dispute. Within no time, the guard’s anger reached such heights that he took out his shoe from his foot and started beating the young man publicly in front of his wife and innocent child.
He was thrown on the ground, grabbed by the collar and dragged.
In the video that went viral on social media, it can be clearly seen that the accused guard threw the young man on the ground and kept dragging him brutally by holding his collar. During this time, the young man’s wife and child kept crying and screaming loudly out of fear, but for a long time no other security personnel or people present in the park came forward to intervene.
Some tourists present in the park captured this entire horrifying incident in their mobile cameras. It is alleged that seeing the matter escalating, the other guards present there hurriedly put the victim youth and his family in an e-rickshaw and sent them away from there so that the police case or ruckus does not increase. At present the victim youth has not been identified.
In defense the guard fabricated the story of ‘domestic violence’
Following strict action from the park administration and LDA officials, the accused guard, identified as Sonu Pandey, tried to present a fabricated story in his defence. The accused guard claimed that the victim youth was in a highly intoxicated state and had publicly slapped his own wife during ticket checking. According to the guard, he intervened to protect the woman following which the dispute escalated. However, after the brutality of the guard was clearly exposed in the video, the administration rejected his theory.
Serious questions raised on the working style of the park officer
Park Officer Shashi Bharti has the entire command and responsibility of Janeshwar Mishra Park, but after this incident, question marks are being raised on his working style and management.
-
No control over guards: Local people and tourists allege that the authorities have no control over the security personnel of the park. Even before this, there have been complaints of indecency, illegal extortion and scuffles by the guards with the general public and couples in the park, but no strict action was ever taken.
-
Accusation of not picking up the phone: Complainants say that the park officials often do not consider it appropriate to answer the calls of the media or the victims after any untoward incident. Even in this matter, when an attempt was made to know his side, he did not respond to the call.
LDA action: Senior LDA officials have made it clear that such violent and indecent behavior with the public will not be tolerated at any cost. Along with dismissing the accused guard Sonu Pandey from service, the security agency has also been given strict instructions to monitor the behavior of its employees.
