News India Live, Digital Desk: Whether it is scorching sun, torrential rain or severe cold, when we are sitting under the quilt at home, then someone or the other stands at the door carrying our food packet or essential items. We call them ‘delivery boys’, but in technical language they ‘Gig Workers’ Are called.
A very big and relief news has come from Jharkhand for these hardworking people. Governor of Jharkhand Santosh Kumar Gangwar has given its approval to ‘Jharkhand Gig Workers (Social Security and Welfare) Bill’. In simple words, this has now become a law which will change the fate of millions of workers.
After all, what is special in this new law?
What happened till now? There was no fixed timing, no fixed salary and God forbid, if an accident happened, I had to bear the cost of treatment myself. But now all this is about to change.
- Minimum Wage Guarantee: Now companies will not give money arbitrarily. The government will decide what is the minimum amount of money a delivery partner or driver should get. That means you will get the right price for your hard work.
- Free Insurance: There is always danger while working on the road. Gig workers will be insured under this law. In case of accident or illness, there will be no more tension of spending money from pocket.
- Welfare Board: The government will create a special board which will hear the complaints of gig workers. If any company (aggregator) harasses you, you will be able to express your views in this board.
Who will get the benefit?
This law is not just for food delivery people.
- Delivery Partners: Zomato, Swiggy, Zepto etc.
- Cab/Bike Drivers: Friends who run Ola, Uber, Rapido.
- Other Apps: All those who connect and provide services through apps will come under its purview.
Where will the money come from?
The government has also made arrangements for this. A fund will be created to run this welfare scheme. In this, not only the state government will give money, but these big companies (aggregators) will also have to deposit some part (1-2%) of their earnings or turnover. This means that the companies which are earning from your hard work will now have to spend for your security also.
a new beginning
After Rajasthan, Jharkhand has become the first state in the country to do so. It is a matter of honor for the thousands of youth who work hard day and night on the streets.
So friends, next time a delivery boy comes to your house, do tell him this news with a smile. Indeed, this is a decision that should be welcomed.
