Karva Chauth fast has a special and extremely sacred place for married women in Sanatan Dharma and Indian culture. Married women wait for this auspicious day throughout the year to wish their husbands long life, good health and unbroken good fortune. On this special festival, women do sixteen makeups, apply henna on their hands, wear new clothes and observe a fast without food or water for the whole day. After seeing the moon in the night sky, this difficult fast is broken by looking at the husband’s face through a sieve and taking water from his hands. In the states of North India like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand, this festival is a sight to behold and women have already started gathering in the markets to buy wedding items.
