Carrara Oval: The Indian cricket team defeated Australia by 48 runs in the fourth T20 match played in Queensland to take a 2-1 lead in the series. After losing the toss and batting first, India scored 167 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Australia collapsed for just 119 runs in 18.2 overs.
For India, Abhishek Sharma (28 runs, 21 balls, 3 fours, 1 six) and Shubman Gill (46 runs, 39 balls, 4 fours, 1 six) gave a good start to the team by making a partnership of 56 runs for the first wicket. Shivam Dubey (22 runs) and captain Suryakumar Yadav (20 runs, 2 sixes) also made useful contributions. In the end, Akshar Patel (21* runs) and Washington Sundar (12 runs) took the team to the score of 167. For Australia, Nathan Ellis (3/21) and Adam Zampa (3/45) took three wickets each, while Xavier Bartlett and Marcus Stoinis took one wicket each to limit Team India’s runs.
On the other hand, the Kangaroos, chasing the target of 168 runs set by India, scored 48 runs in the powerplay, but lost early wickets and proved costly. Although captain Mitchell Marsh (30 runs) and Matthew Short (25 runs) opened the innings, Axar Patel (2/20) and Shivam Dubey (2/20) played lethal innings for India and slowed down Australia’s run rate. In the end, Washington Sundar (3/3) turned the match in India’s favor by taking three wickets. Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Varun Chakraborty took one wicket each. Now with this victory, Team India has taken a 2-1 lead in the 5-match T20 tournament.
