News India Live, Digital Desk: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may soon review its Central Contracts. The matter heated up when it came to light that senior players missing matches due to workload management were suffering financial loss. Especially for players like Jasprit Bumrah, who is rested for a few matches due to injury risk.

What is the ‘Gap’ of ₹2 crore?

As per the current rules, players also get a per match fee in addition to their ‘retainer fee’.

Retainer Fee: Grade A+ players (like Bumrah, Rohit, Virat) get ₹7 crore annually.

Match Fee: ₹ 15 lakh is available for Test, ₹ 6 lakh for ODI and ₹ 3 lakh for T20.

Reason for dispute: Fast bowlers like Bumrah are often rested from bilateral series under ‘workload management’. Statistics show that due to this rest, Bumrah earns approx. Match fee of ₹2 crore There is a loss of Rs., whereas players who play all three formats easily earn this amount.

BCCI’s new ‘Compensatory Formula’

According to BCCI sources, the board feels that it is unfair to deduct the fees of players who have been rested only on the instructions of the board. For this, two major changes are being discussed:

No-Loss Policy: If a player is rested on the advice of the medical team, he may be given a portion of the estimated match fee for that series as ‘compensation’.

Increase in retainer fees: There is also talk that the retainer fee for ‘A+’ grade could be increased from ₹7 crore to ₹10 crore, so that the difference in match fees can be bridged.

Workload management and the future of Team India

In view of the T20 World Cup to be held in 2026 and the upcoming important Test Championship (WTC), BCCI wants to keep its main bowlers fit. The board believes that in order to keep the players mentally and physically fresh, they should not be given financial penalty for missing matches.
