The worst situation is being seen in Rajouri and Poonch districts, where flash floods, allegedly caused by cloudburst, have devastated everything. Four people have died tragically due to floods in Surankote area of ​​Poonch, while more than a dozen people are still reported missing. According to local elders, such a horrifying scene of nature has been seen for the first time in the valley after the historical disaster of 1992.

Bela bus stand wiped out in Rajouri, 250 vehicles washed away in flood

Two-storey houses completely collapsed due to the sudden flood that occurred around 3 am in the morning in Rajouri city. The most dreadful form of the disaster was seen near Bela Bus Stand, where the water level rose so fast that about 200 to 250 cars and other vehicles parked in the low-lying area were swept away in the strong current like a deck of cards. A hair-raising video of this devastation is also going viral on social media, in which vehicles are seen turning into debris. Local residents say that now there is not even a trace left of the bus stop. Goods worth crores kept in shops have been ruined due to flooding of several feet of water in residential areas and markets. Amidst this disaster, there is news of a woman being washed away from Rajouri, the search for whom is going on.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has a direct eye on the situation, saving precious lives is the first priority.

State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah himself is in charge of this serious water crisis and flood situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Sharing an official post on social media, the Chief Minister said, “Since this morning, I have been closely monitoring the serious situation arising out of excessive rains in some parts of Jammu division, especially Rajouri city and its adjoining areas. I am in constant touch with the local MLAs and district administration of the affected areas. The first and foremost priority of the government in this critical situation is to save precious human lives. All citizens whose properties, houses or businesses have been damaged by this flash flood, The government is fully committed to providing them all possible economic and infrastructural assistance.”

Appeal to stay away from rivers and drains, Meteorological Department’s ‘high alert’ till July 23

In view of the rising flood water level, the district administration, SDRF and local relief teams are carrying out rescue operations in the affected areas. The administration has issued a strict advisory for the general public and tourists, asking people not to undertake unnecessary long journeys and to completely stay away from rivers, mountain drains and areas prone to landslides.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Center (IMD) has further increased the concerns of the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in many parts of the state between July 19 and July 23, 2026. In particular, seven major districts of Jammu division—Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Rajouri, Doda, Ramban and Kishtwar have been put on ‘high alert’. The water level of major rivers passing through these districts is reaching above the danger mark, due to which the coming four days are being considered very challenging.
