News India Live, Digital Desk: The political turmoil over the liquor ban law in Bihar has once again intensified. During the budget session on Monday, RJD MLA Ranvijay Sahu made a direct attack on the Nitish government. He alleged that a huge syndicate of liquor mafia is working in Bihar right under the nose of the police and administration, which is running a ‘black marketing’ empire worth thousands of crores of rupees annually.

Empire worth 30 thousand crores: The MLA claimed that despite prohibition in Bihar, illicit liquor worth Rs 30 thousand crores is being sold every year. This money is going directly into the pockets of mafias and corrupt officials.

Deaths due to poisonous liquor: Sahu recently 18 February 2026 Mentioned about 5 deaths in Rohtas. Also adding the incidents of Siwan, Saran and Gopalganj, he said that till now more than 300 people have lost their lives due to poisonous liquor.

Protection of white collars: He alleged that such a big network cannot run without the protection of big leaders and influential officials of the ruling party. He said, “Home delivery of foreign liquor is taking place and poor people are dying after drinking poisonous liquor.”

Administrative Failure: The RJD MLA said that the Excise Department supplements the figures by catching only small smugglers, while ‘big fishes’ are roaming freely.

Blood test challenge: Earlier, a demand was also raised in the House that if the government feels that liquor ban is successful, then random blood test of all the MLAs and officials should be conducted.

Demand for review raised in NDA camp also

Interestingly, MLAs from NDA’s ally RLMO (RLM) Madhav Anand also reiterated the demand for review of liquor ban. He argued that this law is causing huge revenue loss to Bihar and the time has come to reconsider its practicality.

Countering the opposition’s allegations, ruling party ministers said that prohibition is a social revolution and strict steps are being taken to make it successful. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary made it clear that a policy of zero tolerance is being adopted against those who violate the law.
