If you are going to fly from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport today, then this news is useful for you. The technical glitch that occurred in the airport’s system on Friday has been rectified, but its impact still remains to some extent.

So are flights still getting delayed?

Yes, a little bit is happening. The airport authority says that they have almost solved the problem, but flights are still facing delays of 15-20 minutes. According to reports, incoming flights are delayed by about 5 minutes and outgoing flights by an average of 19-20 minutes. So if you have a flight, it would be better to leave a little extra time.

What happened on Friday?

On Friday, an important system of the airport, which automatically manages flight information, suddenly broke down. Due to this technical glitch, even flight numbers were not visible on the Air Traffic Control (ATC) screen.

Imagine, the work which machines do in 3-4 seconds had to be done manually. Because of this, that one task started taking 15-20 minutes and within no time hundreds of flights got delayed and thousands of passengers got upset.

Many people also expressed their problems on social media. A passenger wrote that he had been sitting in the flight for 3 hours, but the plane did not take off. To handle this problem, a team of experts was immediately deployed and with the help of additional staff the situation was brought under control.

At present, the system is working again and the teams are continuously monitoring it, so that everything can be back to normal as soon as possible.
