The International Cricket Council (ICC) is preparing to make Test cricket more interesting, where it is preparing to divide it into two divisions. By doing this, big teams like India, Australia, South Africa and England will be able to play more series among themselves. This system of ICC will be implemented after the Future Tour Program (FTP) of 2027. The ICC has spoken to Cricket Australia (CA) President Mike Baird and England Cricket Board (ECB) President Richard Thompson about this.

Decision taken after Border-Gavaskar Trophy

The report said that the move comes after the record attendance of the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy, in which 5 Test matches were played between India and Australia. Kangaroo team was successful in winning this series after 10 years. This series made many records in terms of viewership. The Border–Gavaskar Trophy was the most watched non-Ashes series in Australian cricket history, with 8,37,879 people coming to the stadium to watch the match.

What is the new system of ICC?

According to the report, after 2027, Test matches can be divided into two parts. After the implementation of this system, teams of India, Australia, England, South Africa and New Zealand will be able to play more matches against each other. All these teams will be placed in 1 division. Apart from this, other teams like Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Ireland and Zimbabwe will be placed in Division 2, which is considered relatively weak in Test cricket.

Top teams will play against each other

This may include teams like Bangladesh and West Indies, who have not had much success in Test cricket in recent times. In this format, the top teams will compete against each other, while the bottom teams will be restricted to their division only. There is no confirmation as to whether this system will have a provision for promotion and demotion of teams.
