This horrifying scene could have turned into reality today in Jharkhand Lohardaga In.

Thank God that a major disaster was avoided and hundreds of families were saved from destruction.

What happened after all?
The matter is of Lohardaga railway section. According to reports, there was a ‘fracture’ i.e. crack in the railway track (Patri) here. During winter season, tracks often crack due to contraction, which is very dangerous. If a high speed train had passed over this broken track, the train coaches could have derailed and a terrible accident could have happened.

Alarm bells rang at the right time
The fortunate thing was that the railway patrolling team or lineman noticed the broken track in time. This is called promptness! As soon as the anomaly was noticed, an alert was immediately issued and trains on that route were stopped or ordered to slow down/caution before they became dangerous.

Imagine, what would have been the condition of those travelers when they would have come to know that Yamraj was standing with outstretched arms on the path through which they were about to pass. Only when the repair work of the tracks started, people heaved a sigh of relief. However, due to this, the railway operations were affected for some time, but if lives were saved then lakhs would have been earned!

Railway engineers reached the spot and repaired the track (by installing clamps, etc.), after which the trains were safely evacuated.

There is a lesson as well as a compliment
One thing is clear from this incident that how important is monitoring of railway tracks. We often curse the railway staff, but today because of these unsung heroes, a huge accident was saved from being recorded in the pages of history. Cracking of tracks is common in winter, hence the Railways need to be more alert now.
