News India Live, Digital Desk: Chitragupta Puja 2025: Along with Bhai Dooj, there is also a tradition of worshiping Lord Chitragupta on the last day of the five-day festival of Diwali. Every year he is worshiped on the second day of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. According to beliefs, Lord Chitragupta keeps track of the good and bad deeds of all living beings. On the basis of his account, Yamraj sends a person to heaven or hell after his death. This puja holds great importance especially for the Kayastha community, as they consider Lord Chitragupta as their worshipable deity.

In the year 2025, Chitragupta Puja will be celebrated on Thursday, October 23. According to the calendar, Dwitiya Tithi will start on October 22 at 08:16 PM and will end on October 23 at 10:46 PM. Due to Udayatithi, it will be auspicious to perform the puja on 23rd October only. The auspicious time for puja is from 01:13 pm to 03:28 pm.

Who is Lord Chitragupta and why is his worship so important?

According to mythology, when Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe, entrusted the responsibility of giving fruits to the living beings according to their deeds to Yamraj, he asked for a helper for this huge task. Then Lord Brahma remained absorbed in meditation for thousands of years, after which a man was born from his body, who was called Lord Chitragupta. Because of being born from the body of Lord Brahma, his descendants are called ‘Kayastha’.

Lord Chitragupta is considered to be the accountant of the gods and the assistant of Yamraj. It is believed that by worshiping him, a person is blessed with knowledge, intelligence, prudence and writing ability. Those traders who worship their books and pens on this day get progress in their business and all obstacles are removed.
