Chilliness increased in the mountains, heat still in the plains

On Monday, people have started feeling the cold due to cold winds blowing and light cloud cover in the hilly districts of the state. At the same time, in the high Himalayan areas, snowfall has brought the temperature to minus and even the rivers and waterfalls have started freezing like blocks of ice.

But on the contrary, in plain areas like Dehradun, the weather remains hot due to bright sunshine during the day. Yes, the coldness has increased here also in the morning and evening.

According to Dehradun Meteorological Centre, the weather may take a turn today i.e. on Tuesday, especially in Kumaon division.

• Chance of rain in these districts: There may be light rain or drizzle at isolated places in Bageshwar, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar and Pithoragarh today.
• How will the weather be in other places? In other districts of the state, the weather will remain mostly dry, but the sky may remain partly cloudy.

There is double the difference between day and night temperatures

The strangest thing about this time is that there is a huge difference in the temperature between day and night. While it feels hot during the day due to rising mercury, the temperature suddenly drops at night. Cold is being felt even more in the plains due to frost falling in the morning.

Today the maximum temperature of Dehradun is likely to be around 29 degrees and the minimum temperature is likely to be around 15 degrees Celsius. That means almost double the difference between day and night temperatures! So next time you leave the house, don’t forget to pack both sunglasses and a light jacket!
