High voltage drama on student union elections in Patna University, first postponed, then after huge uproar, the administration withdrew the decision:

News India Live, Digital Desk: There was tremendous political stir on the campus on Saturday regarding Patna University (PU) Student Union elections. The university administration had earlier cited indiscipline and violation of the code of conduct. 28 February 2026 Voting to be held till further orders Adjourned Had done. However, soon after this decision, the administration had to withdraw its order, succumbing to the fierce protest and siege of the student leaders.

1. Why were the elections postponed? (The Reason for Postponement)

The first notification issued by the university cited several “unforeseen and unexpected” incidents as the reasons behind the postponement of the elections:

Assault with Professor: During the election campaign in Patna Science College on Saturday morning, a group of students allegedly misbehaved and assaulted an English professor in the classroom.

Infiltration in Women’s College: A few days ago a group of students came without permission Patna Women’s College Entered the premises and raised slogans, which was a direct violation of the election code of conduct.

Expensive cars and posters: Complaints were also received about display of power in expensive vehicles and use of printed banners and posters against the rules.

2. The Protest and Reinstatement

As soon as the news of postponement of elections spread, the campus became a ‘battlefield’. Activists of various student organizations gathered outside the Vice Chancellor’s office and started raising slogans against the administration.

siege: Angry students stopped the Vice Chancellor’s car and remained in the campus till late evening.

Order back: In view of the worsening situation and huge pressure from students DSW Yogendra Kumar Verma issued a handwritten letter announcing that the elections would now be held on the predetermined date i.e. 28 February 2026 Will happen only.

4. Administration’s warning: Now strict action will be taken

Even though the election dates have been restored, the university administration has made it clear that any kind of violence or indiscipline will not be tolerated in future.

Inquiry Committee: A three-member committee has been formed to investigate the incident at Science College, which will submit its report within 3 days.

CCTV Surveillance: The entire campus and polling stations are being closely monitored through CCTV.
