Why is this fast so special for women? Unbroken good fortune and union of Shiva-Parvati
According to the stories of Shiv Purana and Skanda Purana, the day of Hariyali Teej is the sacred remembrance day of the reunion of Lord Bholenath and Mother Parvati. Mother Parvati had performed rigorous penance for 107 births to get Lord Shiva as her husband. Ultimately, in her 108th birth, on the day of Shravan Shukla Tritiya, Lord Shiva, pleased with her exceptional devotion and loyalty, accepted her as his better half.
For this reason, married women observe this Nirjala or fruit fast for the longevity, good health of their husbands and to maintain love and harmony in their married life. Whereas unmarried girls worship Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva with the wish of getting a suitable, cultured and desired life partner. There is a religious belief that by worshiping with true heart on this day, all kinds of troubles in married life end.
16 Makeup, importance of green color and the sacred tradition of ‘Sindhara’
The festival of Hariyali Teej is a confluence of the beauty of nature and celebration of womanhood. In the month of Sawan, there is greenery all around, which is a symbol of new life, positive energy and fertility. -
Dark color of mehendi in hands: There is a centuries-old tradition of applying mehndi on the hands and feet of women on Hariyali Teej. It is believed that the darker the color of the mehendi, the more love one gets from the husband and in-laws.
