Today is another important day in the Gyanvapi Masjid case of Varanasi. Today the court can give its verdict on the demand to replace the torn cloth on the lock of the bathroom which has been sealed for a long time. If the court grants permission, the old and worn out seal on the lock can be replaced in the presence of all parties. A decision on this is expected after 2 pm.
Why was there a need to change clothes?
Actually, after the order of the Supreme Court, the Wajukhana is sealed and its gate is locked. A cloth with a government seal was tied on this lock. With time, due to sunlight and rain, this cloth had completely deteriorated and melted. A petition was filed in the court regarding this, in which it was said that the ceiling cloth was damaged and it was necessary to replace it.
The dispute has been going on for a long time
This dispute of Gyanvapi has been in the court for many years. It started in August 2021, when 5 Hindu women filed a petition in the Civil Court of Varanasi seeking permission to worship the deities daily inside the Gyanvapi Masjid complex. After this, on the orders of the court, a video survey of the entire complex was conducted, in which a structure was found in the bathroom, which the Hindu side is calling ‘Shivling’ and the Muslim side is calling it a ‘fountain’. Since then this place is sealed. On September 12, 2022, the district court had considered the petition of the Hindu side worthy of hearing, after which this matter is continuously in the headlines.
