Gujarat women’s team, with the help of captain Kritvika Sinha Roy, won a historic medal by defeating the higher ranked Tamil Nadu team in the UTT 86th Senior National Inter State Table Tennis Championship played at PDPU Indoor Stadium.
Gujarat women’s table tennis team will win a medal for the first time in the 86-year history of the Senior Nationals. Apart from Kritivika, the Gujarat team includes Franz Chipiya, Oishiki Joardar, Philjah Fatima Qadri and Riya Jaiswal. Oishiki defeated Ace Selena 3–2 in the quarterfinals. Krittivika registered a 3-1 win against Yashi and gave Gujarat a 2-0 lead. In the third match, Surat’s Franz fell behind by two games but made a comeback and leveled the score at 2-2 against Kavyashree. However, Tamil Nadu lost that match and the score became 1–2. Krittivika won the second match against Selena 8-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-8 to ensure Gujarat’s 3-1 victory.
