Kolkata, December 15: West Bengal Governor Dr CV Anand Bose honored the veterans of Bangladesh Liberation War ahead of Vijay Diwas. In the program organized at Lok Bhawan, the Governor said that Vijay Diwas celebrated on 16th December is a living memory of courage, sacrifice and victory of justice over injustice.
Governor Bose in his address said that the liberation warriors fought not to conquer anyone, but for honor and dignity. Their struggle is a reminder that freedom is never a gift. It is achieved with sacrifice, discipline and faith in the right objective.
He said that the spirit of Vijay Diwas should continue to inspire the coming generations on both sides of the border and may peace, prosperity and dignity always prevail. The Governor also mentioned the historical relations between West Bengal and Bangladesh. He said that West Bengal’s relationship with Bangladesh is not limited to geography alone. The soil, rivers, villages and people of Bengal still remember those days.
Bangladeshi war veterans who were honored on the occasion include Mohammad Habibul Alam, Major Alik Kumar Gupta Retd, Major Kamrul Abedin Retd, Major Manish Devan Retd, Major Mohammad Abdul Hakim Retd, Brigadier General Mohammad Lutfur Rahman, Major Sher A Shahbaz and Brigadier General Mohammad Hafizur Rahman.
