How is Govardhan Puja performed?
The most special part of this puja is the Govardhan mountain made from cow dung. A picture of a mountain is made with cow dung in the courtyard of the house. Then all the people of the house together circumambulate it seven times and offer things like balls and sticks in the puja. After the puja, everyone together sings the hymns of Lord Krishna and distributes prasad. The next morning of the puja, this cowdung idol is removed with respect and 5 cakes are made at that place by filling a square with flour, which are used in auspicious works and pujas throughout the year.
