Former President Pratibha Patil’s big step on women’s reservation, wrote letter to PM Modi

He has strongly supported this historic law by writing a special letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Patil’s support has come at a time when Congress and opposition parties are attacking the government over the deadline for implementation of this bill and OBC quota. This stance of the former President has become a topic of new discussion in political circles.

Patil expressed happiness for the rights of ‘half the population’

In her letter to the Prime Minister, Pratibha Patil described the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill as a revolutionary step in the country’s democratic journey. He wrote that it was the need of the hour for women to get an equal share in policy-making. Patil expressed confidence that this law will empower women at the grassroots level and their role in nation building will emerge more effective.

Patil’s stand was seen to be different from Congress’s stance

It is noteworthy that the Congress Party supported this bill in the Parliament, but also raised questions on the intentions of the government regarding the census and the condition of delimitation. Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge are continuously demanding that this reservation should be implemented immediately and a separate quota should be ensured for backward class (OBC) women. In such a situation, senior Congress leader Pratibha Patil writing a letter of support directly to PM Modi is being considered as a positive sign and a bit different from the party line.

History was created in the special session of Parliament

Let us tell you that the Central Government had recently passed the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act’ during the special session of the Parliament. Under this law, there is a provision to reserve 33 percent seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. However, it will become effective only after the census and delimitation process is completed. In his letter, the former President has praised this far-reaching thinking, which BJP is presenting as one of its major achievements.
