People had not even recovered from the dreadful tremors of the 6.9 magnitude earthquake that the shadow of another big and even more scary disaster started looming over the Philippines. Now, after the earthquake, many coastal areas of the southern Philippines Tsunami warning has been released.
This simply means that the ocean waves can now take a violent and deadly form.
What happens in tsunami?
When the Earth’s plates move under the ocean (an earthquake occurs), they create a powerful wave in the water. When this wave moves towards the shore, it takes the form of a giant ‘wall of water’, which has the power to destroy everything that comes in its path.
An atmosphere of fear and chaos all around
Since this warning, there is an atmosphere of fear and panic among millions of people living in the coastal areas of the southern Philippines. The administration has appealed to the people to immediately vacate the beach and move to higher and safer places as much as possible.

The earthquake has already caused huge devastation
Earlier, a powerful earthquake measuring 6.9 had shaken the entire Mindanao island. Reasons for this earthquake:

- Electric poles were uprooted and the entire area was engulfed in darkness.
- There are reports of dozens of people being injured and some killed, although this figure is likely to increase further in view of the devastation.
