Five-day conference of World Society of Victimology begins in Gandhinagar | News India

Gandhinagar, 01 September (HS). The 18th International Conference of the World Society of Victimology was inaugurated on Sunday at the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Gandhinagar. The theme of this five-day conference is- “Forensic and Contemporary Perspective in Victimology and Victim Assistance”. The chief guest of the inaugural ceremony was Supreme Court Justice Jitendra Kumar Maheshwari. Along with him, Mongolia's Ambassador to India Genbold Dambajav, President of World Society of Victimology Prof. Janice Joseph, former Chief Justice of Orissa High Court Kalpesh Jhaveri and NFSU Vice Chancellor Dr. JM Vyas were present on the stage.

This is the first time a Victimology Conference is being held in India. The conference is being attended by Victimology professionals and practitioners from the US, Canada, South Africa, Australia, Spain, Taiwan, Germany and Mongolia. On this occasion, Supreme Court Judge Jitendra Kumar Maheshwari emphasized the importance of a victim-centric approach in justice. He said that forensic science experts play a crucial role during investigations, in presenting evidence in trials and in helping people affected by crime in the reintegration and rehabilitation of victims in society. Justice Maheshwari emphasized that the expertise of forensic science professionals is invaluable in these processes.

Padmashri Dr. J.M. Vyas, while highlighting the significant impact of the Victimology Conference, said that the conference will play a crucial role in helping victims of crime and natural disasters in their rehabilitation through forensic and clinical psychology. In addition, the conference will provide valuable legal framework for restoration, rehabilitation and financial compensation of victims.

Prof. Janice Joseph, President, World Society of Victimology also addressed the inaugural session. Prof. S.O. Junare (Campus Director- NFSU, Gandhinagar) welcomed the dignitaries and participants at the inaugural ceremony. During the inaugural ceremony, Prof. Poorvi Pokhriyal (Organizing Chair, WSV); students of NFSU and professionals and practitioners of Victimology from various countries were also present.
