
Mumbai – Faheem Khan, leader of the Minority Democratic Party (MDP), who led the protests outside the Nagpur police station on Monday and is believed to have been arrested by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (PHP) activists, the masterminds behind the raging riots after agitating to remove Aurangzeb’s grave. The police have come to know the names of more than 200 rioters in this case so far. Accused Faheem contested the Lok Sabha elections against Union Minister and senior BJP leader Nitin Gadkari last year.
One of the six elements recorded so far in relation to violent clashes includes the name of Khan and 50 others. During this violence, 33 policemen and citizens, including three Deputy Commissioners of Police, were injured.
It is said that Faheem Khan gave a provocative speech before the riots started. After this violence started. Khan is a resident of Yashodhara Nagar area of Nagpur. After his arrest, he was produced in court, from where he was sent to police custody by 21 March.
Faheem along with a group went to Ganesh Peeth Police Station to file a complaint against the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal workers. After coming out from there, he made a video criticizing the Police and Minorities Commission. This video was posted on social media.
Activists of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal burned Aurangzeb’s picture and his symbolic grave. During this time rumors spread that religious books and holy sheets have been burnt. This movement was started demanding the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb.
The FIR states that a group of 50 to 60 people led by Khan illegally gathered outside Ganeshpeth police station on Monday and submitted a memorandum to the police against the opposition of Vishwa Hindu Parishad.
He demanded action against those who burn sheets. The police took the case seriously and assured action against the accused.
After this, Khan and eight others went to Bhaldarpura area, where about 500 to 600 people of the minority community gathered near Shivaji Maharaj Chowk. Where slogans were raised. After a few minutes, a large crowd of youth suddenly came on the road and started throwing stones. Many houses and vehicles were burnt. 33 policemen and other citizens, including three Deputy Commissioners of Police and other citizens were injured in the attack during the riots.
Nagpur Police Commissioner Virendra Singhal told reporters that the role of the attackers and the nominated persons in the FIR is under investigation. Investigations are underway to find out whether the violence was pre -planned.
