News India Live, Digital Desk: During the first phase of voting for Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, while on one hand there was enthusiasm about voting, on the other hand political rhetoric also remained at its peak. The opposition party Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) made a serious allegation on the Election Commission, saying that electricity is being deliberately cut at the booths under the influence of the Grand Alliance so that the voting process can be disrupted. However, the Election Commission immediately investigated these allegations and rejected them outright.

What was RJD’s allegation?

RJD made this allegation through its official social media handle and media statements during the first phase of voting on Thursday. The party said that there was power failure for hours in many assembly constituencies, especially in those polling stations where the Grand Alliance is expected to get huge support. RJD termed it a well-planned conspiracy and claimed that this is being done so that rigging can be done by taking advantage of darkness and the voters return without casting their votes.

The party had demanded immediate intervention of the Election Commission in this matter and appealed for action against the concerned officials.

What did the Election Commission say after investigation?

The Election Commission immediately took cognizance of these serious allegations of RJD. The Commission directed the concerned District Magistrates and Election Observers to immediately investigate the matter and submit the report.

After a few hours of investigation, the Election Commission issued an official statement rejecting all the claims of RJD. The Commission clarified that the booths where complaints of power cuts were received were mostly Technical glitches or local fault Were caused by. “The allegation that power cuts were carried out deliberately to target a particular party has been found by the investigation to be completely baseless,” the commission said.

The Election Commission also said that as soon as information about the power problem was received, the concerned departments took immediate action and power supply was restored at most places. The Commission assured that the voting process was conducted in a completely fair and transparent manner.

After this clarification from the Election Commission, the political controversy that started with RJD’s allegations has calmed down for the time being, but it has once again exposed the ongoing tension between political parties during the elections.
