He urged the youth to consider knowledge not only as a means of earning a higher salary but as a means of serving the society and building a developed India 2047.
The blessings of Mahamandaleshwar Swami Harichetananand ji were received in the inaugural session. Swamiji highlighted the timeless relevance of Ramayana, Mahabharata and other scriptures for character building and inner happiness in the present age dominated by mobile phones and material aspirations. He praised the initiative of IIT Roorkee and Shri Ramcharit Bhawan, through which saints and scholars on the banks of Ganga were brought together on one platform. Describing Ramayana as a complete guide to life, he emphasized the values of sacrifice, devotion, devotion to Guru and social harmony.
During the inaugural session, “Gita Shabd Index” and e-proceedings of the conference were also released. The distinguished guests said that such reference books will prove to be extremely useful for the seekers, researchers and devotees engaged in the serious study of Geeta and Ramayana.
In a special moment, former Vice Chancellor of Uttarakhand Sanskrit University and eminent Sanskrit scholar Professor Mahavir Aggarwal was posthumously awarded the “Ramayana Ratna” award for his five decades of teaching, research and service to the Indian knowledge tradition. Underlining his extensive academic and administrative contribution, this award was received by his wife Mrs. Veena Aggarwal.
On the inaugural occasion of the conference, the first lecture of Mahavir Memorial Lecture Series was organized, which was presented by Professor Dinesh Shastri, Vice Chancellor of Uttarakhand Sanskrit University, Haridwar. He highlighted the rich Sanskrit and philosophical traditions underlying the Ramayana and stressed the need for the study of such texts through structured courses from school to higher education within the framework of the Indian knowledge tradition. Welcoming the delegates, Professor Rajat Aggarwal, Head, Department of Management Studies and DPIIT IPR Chair Professor expressed his gratitude to Shri Ramcharit Bhawan for choosing IIT Roorkee as the host campus for this conference. Professor Om Prakash Gupta, founder of Shri Ramcharit Bhawan and professor at Houston-Downtown University, presented a brief account of the journey of the International Ramayana Conference that started in 2016. He told that earlier editions of this conference were organized in America, Bhopal, Jaipur and Ahmedabad and this is its eighth edition. He also informed that about 150 research papers based on Ramayana and related spiritual literature will be presented in mixed media and after peer review, the proceedings of the conference will be published in the form of an e-book.
The speakers collectively underlined that the theme of the conference of linking Ramayana with sustainability, ethics and contemporary challenges will prove helpful in redefining the ancient knowledge in the modern context.
The conference concluded in the concluding session held on 13 December 2025, where Ms. Sakshi Goyal, Dr. Aparna Singh, Mr. Rakesh Choubey and Dr. Rajesh Kumar Mishra were honored for their excellent research contribution. Best Research Paper Award Were provided.
