Balbir Singh also participated in the JP movement in 1974 and the Indian anti-corruption movement in 2011. Dr. Balbir had joined Aam Aadmi Party before the 2014 general elections. Dr. Balbir Singh served as the acting convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party of Punjab after the party's national convenor Arvind Kejriwal apologized to Bikram Singh Majithia. Following the apology, party convenor and co-convenor Bhagwant Mann and Aman Arora both resigned from their posts and Balbir Singh was appointed as co-convenor and acting convenor of the party's Punjab unit.
