News India Live, Digital Desk: In this scorching summer season, air conditioner (AC) has become our biggest need. But do you know that rats can make their home inside your switched off AC? According to a recent report, running the AC without checking can not only damage your machine, but it can also pose a major threat to the health of your family.

Why do rats go inside AC?

If the hole made for piping between the outdoor unit and indoor unit of the AC is not completely sealed, then rats can easily enter inside. They find the back of the AC safe and cool, where they can gnaw on the wires or release their feces.

Why is ‘one thing’ necessary before pressing the power button?

According to experts, if a rat has died inside your AC or has made dirt there, then as soon as you press the button:

Poisonous air: The blower fan will convert the dirt into fine particles and spread it in the air throughout the room.

Deadly diseases: There is a danger of spreading serious diseases like ‘Hantavirus’ and ‘Leptospirosis’ due to rat filth, which can enter the body through breath.

blower jam: Rats often collect clothes or garbage near the filter or blower, which can cause the motor to burn as soon as you turn on the AC.

What to do? Follow these steps:

Check Filter: Before turning on the AC, open the front panel and remove the filter and check if there is any garbage or rodent droppings.

Fill the pipe hole: Seal the hole in the wall from where the pipes are coming in properly with ‘white cement’ or ‘polyurethane foam’ (PU Foam).

Use of mesh: Install fine iron mesh on the empty parts of the outdoor unit so that rats cannot enter inside.

Professional Service: If you notice a strange smell coming from the AC, get a deep cleaning done by a mechanic instead of cleaning it yourself.
