The general public had to face a lot of problems on Friday (29 May 2026) morning in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. The contractual employees of Lucknow City Transport Services Limited (LCTSL) suddenly went on strike in protest against private outsourcing, due to which the operation of city buses, considered the lifeline of the city, has come to a complete halt.
The anger of more than 400 drivers and conductors posted at Dubagga City Bus Depot erupted against the management. The employees parked the buses at the main entrance of the depot and sat on strike there. This surprise strike has created a stir in the transport department.
Main reasons for employee performance
The protesting contractual employees have made very serious allegations against the city bus management and administration:

Salary outstanding for 3 months: The employees claim that they have not been paid salaries from March 2026 till now (May 2026). Due to non-payment of salary for the last three months, he is facing a financial crisis.

Opposition to Adjustment in Private Firm: The employees are strongly opposing the process of private outsourcing and forced adjustment in the private firm being done by the management. They are demanding an immediate stop to this process.

Mental torture and harassment: The drivers and conductors sitting on strike have also accused the depot officials of mentally harassing them and threatening to fire them from the job.

As soon as the information about the strike was received, senior officials of the city bus service and the local police force reached Dubagga depot. Officials are continuously trying to convince the employees and restart the operation of buses.
However, the attitude of the employees is very strict. The protesters have made it clear that they will not return to work merely on empty assurances. The employees have submitted a memorandum of their demands to the Transport Department and the District Administration and warned that if written and concrete action is not taken immediately on their demands, they will further intensify this agitation in the entire Lucknow city.
