ChatGPT’s new personal writing style feature rollout, will write emails and drafts exactly in your style; Know how to start it

OpenAI, a leading company in the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI), has released a major update for its chatbot ChatGPT. Now ChatGPT will not just reply in a normal and robotic manner, but will learn the user’s personal writing style and create content, emails and messages in the same style. Professionals and creators often complained that drafts written by AI seemed too bookish or formal and that they had to repeatedly give long prompts to explain their tone. With the introduction of this new feature, the chatbot is able to generate text naturally similar to yours by recognizing the unique tone of your writing, favorite phrases and sentence structure.

According to OpenAI, this feature works with the help of Advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP) and connected apps integration. Under this, the AI model analyzes the content of connected tools related to the user’s workplace or daily communication such as Gmail, Google Drive, Slack and SharePoint. In this process, the system understands in detail which words you choose most in conversation, what is your way of signing off, what is the length of your sentences and what kind of punctuation or capitalization you use. After understanding all these linguistic patterns, whenever you get a new draft prepared, the chatbot will leave its usual layout and directly apply your personal tone.

In the initial phase, this facility has been made available on the web platform for ChatGPT Work and paid subscribers. The company has clarified that the AI won’t learn from messages you type directly into the chat window as prompts, but will only study your style from actual working drafts available in authorized workspace tools. Through connected apps, it also understands the difference between your formal and semi-formal conversations, so whether you’re writing an email to your boss or a Slack message to a teammate, the tone changes depending on the context.

If this new update has become available on your account, then some easy steps have to be followed to activate it:

First of all, open the browser on your computer or laptop and login to the official portal of ChatGPT. Click on your profile icon at the bottom left corner of the screen and select the ‘Settings’ option. After this go to the ‘Personalization’ tab given in the menu. There you will see a new option related to ‘Writing Style’ or style preference. Click this option and allow essential workspace tools (like Gmail or Google Drive) to connect. The system will complete the analysis of your previous drafts in a matter of minutes. After this, this feature will be activated as soon as you click on ‘Save’ or ‘Enable’. Once activated on the web, this setting will also work on your linked mobile app.

Till now, users were using options like ‘Custom Instructions’ or ‘Base Style and Tone’ to set their style. In custom instructions, the user had to write himself and tell what kind of tone he wanted. But in this new automated writing style feature, the user does not have to write the rules himself. The system automatically creates a profile of your style by analyzing the data in the background. This provides much more accurate and personalized results than previously available base personas (such as Professional, Casual or Direct).

It is natural to raise questions about data security when workplace emails and documents are connected to AI. OpenAI has clarified that the purpose of this feature is only to understand linguistic structure, not to store sensitive personal data or share it with any third parties. Additionally, users are given full authority to remove connected tools, reset the writing style, or disable the feature altogether at any time by going into their settings.

This new feature will save a lot of time for executives, freelance writers and marketing professionals who send dozens of emails every day. Earlier, the text received from AI had to be edited manually to adapt it to one’s own words, so that the person on the receiving end would not think that the email was prepared by a bot. Now this process will become automatic. Including your vocabulary and greetings will make the email seem completely original and human, which will significantly increase efficiency.
