Cyclonic storm ‘Montha’, which arose in the Bay of Bengal, has now taken an even more dangerous form and is rapidly moving towards the Indian coast. According to the Meteorological Department, this storm may hit Kakinada coast of Andhra Pradesh by late evening or midnight on Tuesday. Regarding this, high alert has been issued in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal and people are holding their breath in the coastal areas.

This is the first major storm of this season, and it is feared that it will turn into a ‘severe cyclonic storm’ before hitting the coast. During this period, there has been a warning of strong winds blowing at a speed of 90 to 100 kilometers per hour and heavy to very heavy rains.

Biggest preparation to fight the storm, Army and NDRF on alert

In view of the greatest danger of the storm, the Andhra Pradesh government has started preparations on a war footing to prevent any loss of life or property.

• High Alert: High alert has been declared in Kakinada, Konaseema, West Godavari, Eluru and East Godavari districts.
• Relief and rescue forces deployed: 30 teams of NDRF and 50 teams of SDRF have been deployed for relief operations. Besides, machines and generators have also been kept ready for any emergency.
• 269 ​​relief camps ready: To keep people living in coastal and low-lying areas safe, 269 rehabilitation centers have been set up, where there is complete arrangement for food, milk, medicines and medical staff.
• Pregnant women taken to hospital: The best part is that around 140 pregnant women from nearby villages have already been safely shifted to hospitals.
• School-college closed: In view of the danger, holidays have been declared in all schools and colleges till Wednesday.
• Return of fishermen:It has also been ensured that no fisherman is left at sea; Everyone has returned safely with their boats.

Hoardings are being removed from cities, weak ponds are guarded 24 hours

The administration does not want to take any risk. Old trees in cities and along national highways are being pruned and large hoardings and advertising boards have been removed to avoid accidents in high winds. Around 130 small irrigation ponds in Eluru district have been declared vulnerable, with government employees and swimmers deployed to take care of them. People have also been appealed to stay in their homes until the storm passes.

The worst impact of this storm is likely to be on Andhra Pradesh, where red and orange alert has been issued in 23 districts. Along with this, southern coasts of Odisha and northern districts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai may also receive heavy rain in the coming days.
