News India Live, Digital Desk: To ensure industrial revolution and uninterrupted power supply in Bihar, the government has released the masterplan for the next five years (2026-2031). Energy Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal, in a recent meeting with FICCI and industry representatives, revealed that the state is now going to completely modernize the power generation, transmission and distribution infrastructure.

Main focus of investment: Where will ₹78,000 crore be spent?

The government has divided this huge investment into three main categories:

1. Renewable Energy: * Bihar’s target by 2030 24 GW (Gigawatt) Renewable energy capacity and 6.1 GWh energy storage (BESS) is to be achieved.

Special emphasis will be given to solar energy, wind power and biomass projects.

2. Modernization of Transmission and Distribution: * Smart metering projects will be expanded across the state.

The number of ‘dedicated feeders’ for agriculture will be increased so that farmers get cheap and regular electricity for irrigation.

3. Energy Storage System (Pumped Storage): * At Ekamba (1200 MW) and Gosaitari (920 MW) in Nawada district. Pumped Storage Power House Will be constructed, which involves an investment of approximately Rs 13,000 crore.

In view of the favorable investment environment in Bihar, the top industrial units of the country have shown their interest:

Major companies: Tata Power, NHPC, Avaada Group, and Hitachi Energy.

Government Incentives: Under the new ‘Renewable Energy Policy 2025’, investors are being given attractive benefits like 100% stamp duty waiver, electricity duty exemption and SGST refund.

As per the instructions of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, this investment will not only make Bihar self-reliant, but will also make India ‘Net zero’ emissions by 2070 Will also play an important role in achieving the goal. The Energy Department has laid the foundation of making the state carbon-neutral through ‘Pumped Storage Policy-2025’ and ‘Solar Policy’.
