News India Live, Digital Desk: A major accident has occurred during the ongoing ‘Operation Clean’ against Naxalites in West Singhbhum (Chaibasa) district of Jharkhand. A soldier of CRPF’s Cobra battalion has been seriously injured after being hit by a pressure IED laid by Naxalites in the highly Naxal affected area of Tonto police station area. After the incident, security forces have intensified the cordon in the area and the injured soldier has been shifted to Ranchi by helicopter for better treatment.
A massive explosion occurred during the search operation
According to the information, on Tuesday morning a joint team of security forces (Cobra 203 Battalion, Jharkhand Jaguar and District Police) was conducting a search operation on the information about the presence of top Naxal leaders in the dense forests located on the border of Tonto and Goilkera. Meanwhile, on a hilly road near Rengrahatu, the soldier’s foot fell on an IED hidden by the Naxalites. The explosion was so powerful that its echo was heard far away and the soldier was seriously injured.
Airlifted and admitted to Medica Hospital, Ranchi.
As soon as information about the blast was received, additional forces were dispatched from the district headquarters. Due to the inaccessible area, the injured soldier was immediately given first aid and brought to a safe place, from where he was airlifted by a special helicopter from Ranchi. Presently the jawan is being treated at Medica Hospital in Ranchi, where a team of doctors is monitoring his condition. According to officials, the condition of the soldier is stable but serious.
Cowardly act of Naxalites: Conspiracy to target villagers and soldiers
Fearing defeat, Naxalites have laid IEDs and booby traps at every step in the forests of West Singhbhum. In the last few months, many innocent villagers and cattle have lost their lives due to these blasts. Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashutosh Shekhar said that despite these cowardly actions of the Naxalites, the morale of the security forces is high and the operation will continue till the Naxalites are eliminated from the forests.
Search operation intensified in the area, Naxalites cordoned off
After this incident, Chaibasa Police and Central Reserve Police Force have surrounded the entire forest area from all sides. It is suspected that after the blast, Naxalite squads may be hiding in the nearby hills. With the help of police dog squad and bomb disposal squad (BDDS), work is being done to defuse other possible IEDs. The administration has also appealed to the local villagers to avoid going on unknown paths in the forests.
