News India Live, Digital Desk: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has made several revolutionary changes in the admission process for the academic session 2026. Moving towards the implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP 2020), the BHU administration has approved new rules for undergraduate (UG) and research courses. The most important change is for those students who want to go into the field of research, now meritorious students who have completed 4 years of graduation will be able to directly take admission in PhD without master degree (MA/MSc).

4 years UG Honors and direct path to PhD

According to the new rules of BHU, students who complete 4 years ‘UG Honors with Research’ course and secure minimum 75% marks (or equivalent CGPA) will be directly eligible for PhD programme. Till now, Post Graduation (PG) was mandatory for PhD, but now students will save one year by getting direct admission in research after graduation. This is a big relief for those students who want to complete their higher education faster.

New rules for admission to BA-BEd and BSc-BEd (ITEP)

There is also big news for students making career in the field of education. BHU has amended the admission rules for 4-year Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) i.e. BA-BEd and BSc-BEd. Now admission to these courses will be based on CUET score as well as NCET exam. The university has made the selection of subjects and eligibility criteria in these courses more flexible, so that students from different backgrounds can fulfill their dream of becoming teachers.

Admission and Counseling Process through CUET

The main basis for admission will still remain CUET (CUET UG/PG), but the process of allotment of seats and preference entry has been changed. BHU administration has clarified that students will get more options during counseling and credit bank facility will also be provided under the ‘Multiple Entry-Exit’ system. Students are advised to read the new Information Bulletin of BHU carefully before applying to avoid any technical mistakes.

Transparency in course fees and hostel allocation

Along with the admission rules, the university has also decided to make the fee structure and hostel allotment process digital and more transparent. From the new session, all admissions will be managed through ‘Samarth’ portal. BHU Vice Chancellor said that these changes have been made with the aim of increasing the quality of education and saving time of students, so that BHU can meet the global standards.
