News India Live, Digital Desk: Election strategist Prashant Kishor, who came out with the slogan of politics of change in Bihar, has suffered a big setback just a day before the first phase of voting. Sanjay Kumar Singh, the declared candidate of his party ‘Jan Suraj’ from Munger Assembly seat, suddenly changed sides and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
This development is not only a big embarrassment for Prashant Kishor’s ‘Jan Suraj’ campaign, but also shows how equations change at the last moment in Bihar politics. Sanjay Singh was given membership of the party by BJP state president and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary.
Who is Sanjay Singh, and why did he leave ‘Jan Suraj’?
Sanjay Kumar Singh is a big and well-known name in Munger. He has been MLA from Munger on RJD ticket in 2010. This time he had expressed confidence in Prashant Kishor’s ‘Jan Suraj’ campaign and had made full preparations to contest the elections as a candidate from Munger. His posters and banners were also put up all over the city.
Although, after joining BJP, Sanjay Singh did not directly accuse Prashant Kishore, but his move has raised serious questions on the election preparations of ‘Jan Suraj’. It is believed that Sanjay Singh has received some big assurance from BJP, due to which he took such a big decision just before voting.
BJP’s ‘masterstroke’ on Prashant Kishor’s ‘change’
Prashant Kishor has been a constant attacker on both Nitish Kumar and Tejashwi Yadav and was presenting his party as a third and better option. But just before voting, one of our own big candidates leaving the party like this is a big blow to his credibility.
This incident is like a strategic victory for BJP. On one hand, while it defeated a strong candidate from its opposing camp, on the other hand it also gave the message that the ‘Jan Suraj’ clan is not yet strong enough to keep its leaders united.
Now the election contest in Munger has become even more interesting. With Sanjay Singh joining BJP, the party has got a strong and local face on that seat. Only the results will tell what effect this will have on the first phase of voting, but it is certain that this one incident has heated up the political atmosphere in Bihar even more.
