Government of Karnataka response
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ordered an inquiry into the case. He has asked to submit the report within 15 days. Meanwhile, in the preliminary report submitted to the state government, the Director General of Police and Inspector General of Bangalore blamed the “unpredictable mob of thousands of fans” for the stampede. The Director General claimed that “all possible security arrangements were made”, even though the program was determined in a very short time.
According to the police, the barricade broke down due to an unpredictable crowd of fans trying to enter the stadium between 3.30 pm and four o’clock in the afternoon and the fans fell on each other.
Siddaramaiah expressed grief over the incident and expressed condolences to the families of those killed in this tragedy. CM said, “The pain of this tragedy has also eradicated the joy of victory.” He said that the administration did not expect such a large crowd. According to CM, 2 to 3 lakh people attended the program as against the stadium’s capacity of 35,000.
