Shimla, May 27 (HS). Police officers and personnel in Himachal Pradesh will not be able to upload reels, stories, videos and photos on social media in police uniform. The state police administration has banned doing so. DGP Atul Verma has issued orders regarding this on Monday.
According to the order, police officers and jawans will no longer be able to upload videos, reels, or stories on non-policing issues in uniform on social media platforms.
Strict departmental action will be taken against those who disobey these orders. In this regard
Instructions have been given to police officers of all the districts of the state.
The order states that some police officers and personnel are posting pictures, videos, reels or stories in uniform on social media platforms which are not related to police duty. This conduct is against the rules and norms of the police department and content which is not related to official police work may adversely affect the reputation of the department.
According to the order issued by the DGP, the police uniform is a symbol of commitment, dedication and accountability towards the public. In such a situation, it is important that its use on any public or digital platform reflects these values. Content that is not related to official police work can adversely affect the reputation of the department.
The order further states that since social media plays a vital role in shaping public perception and inappropriate content can undermine public confidence in law enforcement agencies, it is important to maintain the dignity and image of the department. As such, all District Superintendents of Police, Commandants, Unit Incharges and Supervisory Officers are directed to sensitize all police personnel under their command and control to strictly refrain from posting photos, videos, reels or stories in uniform.
The order also said that the controlling officer should ensure compliance and strict action in this regard and any negligence in this regard would be taken seriously.
