Itanagar, 07 September (HS). Under the Gau Dhwaj Sthapana Bharat Yatra, Jagadguru Shankaracharya (religious guru) will reach Itanagar on 27 September to address the people on the awareness campaign to stop cow slaughter in the country and declare cow as the mother of the nation.
A nationwide Gau Pratishtha movement is being run to give the status of Rashtra Mata to the cow, protect the cow and make India free from cow slaughter with the aim of creating awareness among the devotees of all religions across the country. This was said by Brahmachari Mukundanand, representative of Jyotishpeethadhiswar Jagadguru Shankaracharya while addressing a press conference organized at Arunachal Press Club (APC) today.
He said the Gau Dhwaj Sthapana Bharat Yatra will begin from September 22 and continue till October 26, in which Shankaracharya along with Hindu devotees will do the sacred installation of the Gau Dhwaj in the capital cities of all Indian states and union territories.
Gaubhakt Vikas Patni, the co-convener of the Yatra, said that the Gau Pratishtha Andolan Samiti is committed to restore the sanctity and honour of the cow and to give it the status of 'Gau Mata'. He said that a Gau Pratishtha Maha Sammelan will be organised on the occasion of Gopasthami on 7-9 November in Delhi, in which the Government of India will be appealed to create a separate ministry for the protection of cows.
Meanwhile, Mukundanand said that he had no intention to hurt the sentiments of other religious groups by conducting the said awareness campaign. Mukundanand said, “Our main aim is to protect cows, whose population is declining rapidly due to indiscriminate slaughter.” After Arunachal, Shankaracharya will continue his journey towards Assam, Kohima and Nagaland.
