
The Assam government has taken a very shocking and big decision regarding the rules of Aadhaar Card in the state. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told a press conference after the cabinet meeting on Saturday that the Assam Cabinet has taken a tough decision on the process of issuing new Aadhaar cards. Under this, now Aadhar card will not be issued to new applicants above 18 years of age in the state.
However, the government has given major concessions to some special sections of the state. People belonging to Scheduled Tribe (ST), Scheduled Caste (SC) and Tea Garden community are currently kept out of this rule. Eligible people from these specific communities will be able to apply for their new Aadhar card till March 2027 and they will continue to get this facility.
New ‘satellite town’ to be built to reduce pressure on Guwahati
Apart from the strict rules of Aadhaar card, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made another historic announcement to speed up urban development in the state. The Assam Cabinet has approved the construction of a state-of-the-art and new Satellite City under the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) area. The main objective of this mega project is to reduce the increasing population and traffic pressure on the rapidly growing metropolis of Guwahati, as well as to develop world-class infrastructure and civic amenities in its surrounding areas.
Demand for ‘geographical equality’ echoed in NITI Aayog meeting
On Friday, CM Sarma participated in a high-level meeting organized by Niti Aayog in New Delhi along with all the Chief Ministers and Chief Secretaries of the Northeast. From this platform he advocated a new development model for the country based on “geographical equality”. The Chief Minister bluntly said that to fulfill the vision of ‘Developed India’ (Viksit Bharat @2047) by the year 2047, it will not be enough to just look at the country’s GDP or economic progress. Rather, it has to be ensured that the wheel of development reaches the remote areas of the country and every backward society.
Northeast returned to mainstream, picture changed with ‘Act East Policy’
Praising the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister said that in earlier times North East India used to remain on the margins of national policies and discussions, but today it has become the center of strategic and economic decisions of the country. Over the last few years, there has been unprecedented expansion of road, railway and air connectivity across the North-East. Permanent peace in the region, strong infrastructure and central government ‘Act East Policy’ Due to the effective implementation of this, the importance of the entire North-East including Assam has increased significantly at the global level.
Record investment is coming in Assam, employment opportunities are increasing
Referring to the economic progress of the state, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Assam is now becoming the first choice of big investors of the country and the world. Due to the favorable policies of the government, huge investment is coming into the state in big sectors like manufacturing, logistics, renewable energy (solar energy) and technology. This increasing industrial investment is not only giving a new boost to the economy of Assam, but is also creating millions of new and modern employment opportunities for the local youth.
