Akasa Air, the country’s fastest growing aviation company, is now preparing to provide cheap air travel to the general public. The company is going to be a part of the Central Government’s regional air connectivity scheme ‘Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik’ (UDAN). Vinay Dubey, Founder and CEO of Akasa Air, revealed in an interview that the company is deeply studying the possibilities of starting flights on new routes under this scheme. After assessing each route separately, a final decision will be taken soon.
226 powerful aircraft will join the fleet by 2032
Akasa Air CEO Vinay Dubey shared many important things regarding the company’s expansion plans. He said that the entry of new aircraft in the company’s fleet is happening as per the schedule. So far in the year 2026, Akasa Air has received 9 new Boeing 737 Max aircraft. The company has placed a large order for a total of 226 aircraft, out of which the remaining 186 aircraft will join the company’s fleet by the end of 2032.
Mega plan to increase capacity by 40% every year
The company is aiming to increase its capacity by about 30 percent in the current financial year. At the same time, there is a plan to expand the capacity by 30 to 40 percent every year in the next 4 to 5 years. It is noteworthy that the government has launched the revised UDAN scheme on July 4 itself, the objective of which is to connect remote and unserved areas of the country with air connectivity at cheap fares. Under this scheme, which was started in October 2016, till now 669 routes have been operationalized and 95 airports have been connected.
Network in 28 domestic and 7 international cities
At present, Akasa Air is providing its successful flight services to 28 domestic and 7 international cities of the country. Vinay Dubey said that the company is also considering joining the ATF Price Stabilization Fund and the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS), the terms of which are currently being studied.
Relying on 5000 employees and single class model
Sticking to its old strategy, Akasa Air will continue to work on a single aircraft type and single class model (without business class) for the time being, although this will continue to be reviewed as per the market needs. Despite the global aircraft engine shortage, Boeing Company is giving timely delivery to Akasa. The company is getting the benefit of not firing employees even during recession. Today Akasa Air has more than 5,000 employees, including more than 850 dedicated pilots.
