Dyslexia revealed in ‘Taare Zameen Par’
Junaid Khan revealed that his parents—Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta—discovered his dyslexia when he was reading the script of “Taare Zameen Par”. The film was based on the story of a dyslexic child, and made his family aware of the condition.
Junaid said, “When my parents read the script, they understood my problem more. After this they decided to take me to the doctor.”
Junaid’s studies and Aamir Khan’s attitude
In an interview, Vicky Lalwani asked whether Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta were strict about studies. On this Junaid said, “No, my parents were not very strict about the results. “They knew I had dyslexia, so they took that into account during my schooling.”
He said that despite this problem, his parents always encouraged him and made sure that he got the right help and guidance to deal with the condition.
Experience of going to the doctor
Junaid shared that he was only six or seven years old when his parents took him to the doctor. After investigation it was found that he had dyslexia.
“There were some challenges in the beginning, but I got the right treatment and full support from my family. Because of this, the condition did not have much impact on my childhood,” he said.
Inspiration related to “Taare Zameen Par”?
When asked if his situation inspired Aamir Khan to make “Taare Zameen Par”, he clarified, “It was just the opposite. My parents understood my condition better after reading the script of the film and took me to the doctor.”
