Ranchi, 21 August (HS). The court of Chief Justice Commissioner cum Special Judge of NDPS cases Diwakar Pandey on Wednesday sentenced Dukhaharan Sahu, convicted in a drug smuggling case, to ten years of imprisonment. He has also been fined two lakh twenty thousand rupees. If he does not pay the fine, he will have to serve an additional sentence of two years.
The accused is a resident of Choreya village of Chanho police station area. One of the accused in this case, Sabir Ansari, has been acquitted by the court due to lack of sufficient evidence.
On the basis of secret information, Chanho police raided on March 11, 2023 and recovered two kg ganja, 40 pieces of cough syrup and 14 bottles of illegal English liquor from the accused. The then police station in-charge of Chanho, Ranjay Kumar, had lodged an FIR regarding the incident. During the hearing in the case, PP Anil Kumar Singh presented seven witnesses before the court. The court said in its verdict that drug trafficking is having an adverse effect on the society. This is ruining the future of the youth. Punishing such accused would be in the interest of justice.
