Kathmandu: A total of 65 people, including 7 Indians, have died after two buses fell into the river due to a landslide in Nepal. While 50 are still missing. This accident happened when two buses fell into the Trishuli river due to a landslide from Narayanghat-Mugwing road in Simaltal area of Chitwan district.
Quoting officials, the 'My-Republic' news portal said that due to the torrential rains for the last few days, landslides have occurred everywhere. Along with this, there has been heavy flooding in the rivers as well.
Chitwan district official Indradev Yadav confirmed the accident and further said that 'Angel Bus Service' going to Kathmandu and Ganpati Deluxe buses going from Kathmandu to Gaur city met with the accident at 3.30 am. There were 24 passengers in the Kathmandu-bound bus and 41 passengers in the Ganpati Deluxe bus going to Gaur. 3 tourists jumped off the bus and escaped.
My-Republic portal reported that according to the available information, seven Indians were also travelling in the Angel Deluxe bus and they also died by drowning in the river. Yadav said that rescue work has been started now. But time was wasted in removing those mud stones before the road got blocked by the landslide.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal expressed grief over the incident and said on 'T' that we are committed to start relief work as soon as possible.
In other news, in another tragedy, 11 people were swept away by a landslide in a river in Kaski district.
