United Nations: Russia must immediately withdraw its troops from Ukraine. India abstained from voting on that resolution of the United Nations General Assembly. The resolution also requested Russia to withdraw its troops from Ukraine's Zaporizhia nuclear power plant.
99 votes were cast in favour of the proposal while 9 votes were cast against it and a total of 60 countries, including India, Bangladesh, China, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia, abstained from voting.
The proposal is titled Safety and Security of Ukraine’s Nuclear Facilities, Including the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant.
The resolution also calls on Russia to immediately cease its aggression against Ukraine and immediately withdraw its forces from Ukrainian territories along its international border.
According to sources, it is being said that India has expressed its opposition to this proposal and that is why it has decided to stay away from voting on the proposal.
A total of 60 countries, including the above-mentioned countries, agreed with India's view and did not participate in the voting.
Regarding the proposal, experts say that passing the proposal is one thing. But it cannot be assumed that the war can be stopped.
As far as India is concerned, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has raised the issue of devastation in Ukraine and the death of innocent civilians with Russian President Putin, but no conclusion has been reached.
