New Delhi: At a time when the opposition is accusing the Modi government of violating the Constitution, the central government has now indicated an escalation of the confrontation with the opposition by announcing to celebrate June 25 every year as 'Bandhan Hiday Diwas' in the country.
The central government issued a notification on Friday saying that every year 25 June will be celebrated as 'Constitutional Murder Day' in the country. At the same time, Congress has also moved forward on this path of confrontation and announced to celebrate 4 June as 'Modi Mukti Diwas'.
In a notification issued on Friday, the Central Government has said that Emergency was declared on 25 June 1975. After this, the then government grossly misused power and atrocities were committed on the people of India. Whereas the people of India have deep faith in the Constitution of the country and the strong democracy of the country. Therefore, the Government of India has declared 25 June as 'Bandhan Hatya Diwas' to pay tribute to all those who fought during the Emergency and faced the gross misuse of power. The people of India have pledged not to support any major misuse of power in future.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah welcomed this decision of the central government. He said on the social media platform X that on 25 June 1975, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had strangled the soul of Indian democracy by imposing emergency in the country, showing her autocratic mindset. Lakhs of people were put in jail without any reason and the voice of the media was suppressed.
The Government of India has decided to observe 25 June every year as 'Constitutional Murder Day'. This day will remind us of the invaluable contribution of all those who suffered the inhuman suffering of the Emergency of 1975.'
Amit Shah said that this decision taken by the central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi aims to honor the struggle of millions of people who fought to revive democracy despite facing many tortures and atrocities by the dictatorial government. Constitution Hatya Diwas will serve to keep the immortal flame of protecting democracy and individual freedom alive in the minds of every Indian, so that the autocratic mentality of a party like Congress is not repeated in the future.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi retweeted Amit Shah and said, Constitution Hatya Diwas on 25 June will remind the countrymen what the country had to go through after the Constitution was crushed. This day is also to pay tribute to all those who had to bear the atrocities of the Emergency. The country will always remember these oppressive steps of the Congress as a black chapter in Indian history.
Angry with the Centre's decision, Congress has questioned the Centre's move.
Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh wrote on Twitter, “The non-organic PM is once again trying to make a headline full of hypocrisy. But he imposed an undeclared Emergency for 10 years before the decisive personal, political and moral defeat he suffered at the hands of the people of India on June 4, 2024 (which will go down in history as ‘Modi Mukti Diwas’).
