Terrorist incidents have increased in Jammu and Kashmir in the last few days. Due to which the security forces are also seen armed. Terrorists attacked the army from the hilly forests in Machedi-Bilavar area of Kathua district of Jammu. But the army soldiers also foiled their plan and fired indiscriminately. The army soldiers fired more than 5000 bullets on the terrorists, due to which the terrorists fled from the spot.
At least 26 residents of Machedi-Billawar area of Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district have been detained for questioning in connection with Monday's deadly attack on an Army patrol carrying two trucks, in which five jawans of the 22 Garhwal Rifles were killed and five others injured, officials said on Wednesday.
An official said that an NIA team has reached the spot and is assisting the police in the investigation. Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF and Para Commando personnel are searching the rugged terrain and forests of the area to nab the terrorists, but no one has been caught or killed so far.
Heavy rains have made aerial surveillance by drones and helicopters difficult. Authorities have begun linking the incidents to the ambush near Badnota village. The firing continued for over two hours before more forces arrived. It is believed that the militants in groups of three each, hiding in two places on the hill and in dense forest, surprised the troops with grenades and firing. At 3.30 pm, when the truck reached a turn on the Machedi-Kindli-Malhar road, it caught fire.
Despite facing heavy fire, the troops continued firing to prevent further casualties and stop the terrorists from snatching their weapons. An officer told PTI that the soldiers of the Garhwal Regiment of the Indian Army fired 5,189 rounds at the terrorists, forcing them to flee from the spot.
