New Delhi, 01 July (HS). The Delhi High Court will hear tomorrow i.e. on July 2, the petition challenging the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the CBI and the trial court's order of CBI custody. A bench headed by Justice Neena Bansal Krishna will hear the case.
On June 26, the Rouse Avenue Court had sent Kejriwal to CBI custody for three days. Rouse Avenue Court's duty judge Amitabh Rawat had said that the arrest of Kejriwal by the CBI was not illegal. Later on June 29, when the CBI arrest was over, duty judge Sunaina Sharma ordered him to be sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
During Kejriwal's appearance in Rouse Avenue Court on June 26, CBI lawyer DP Singh told the court that there are statements of many witnesses that a person meets Kejriwal regarding the Delhi Excise Policy. This happened even before the policy was made. DP Singh referred to the statements of Magunta Reddy. DP Singh said that the CBI has evidence that the South Group told how to prepare the Excise Policy. DP Singh said that the notification was issued in a hurry during Corona. Arvind Kejriwal was behind this.
After Arvind Kejriwal did not get protection from arrest from the Delhi High Court, the ED arrested him after questioning him late in the evening on 21 March. On 10 May, the Supreme Court granted Arvind Kejriwal interim bail till 1 June to campaign in the Lok Sabha elections and ordered him to surrender on 2 June. Kejriwal surrendered on 2 June. On 21 June, the Rouse Avenue Court granted regular bail to Kejriwal in the ED case, which has been stayed by the Delhi High Court.
