Hisar, June 29 (HS). Vice Chancellor of Haryana Agricultural University, Prof. BR Kamboj inaugurated the 'Biomethanation and Waste Assessment Laboratory' and modified biogas plant in the Department of Microbiology of the College of Basic Sciences and Humanities. This laboratory has been reconstructed with the financial assistance of Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY).
Prof. Kamboj said on the occasion of inauguration on Saturday that 'Biomethanation and Waste Assessment Laboratory' is an important step towards achieving the goals of environmental prosperity and cleanliness of our university. This laboratory will play an important role in making value-added products from agricultural residues. In this laboratory, value-added products will be made from agricultural residues such as straw, stalks, peels and other wastes. These include biogas, bioethanol, biodiesel, compost, bioactive compounds such as polyphenols which have antimicrobial and antioxidant activity and polyhydroxybutyrate are produced by microorganisms.
This lab has advanced technology based equipment like analysis of agricultural waste, analysis of biogas, anaerobic chamber for methanogen development, bioreactor for biofuel production and various additives like agricultural food waste, green synthesized nanoparticles and poultry waste are being used for biofuel production. Its main objective is to reduce the harmful effects of waste materials on the environment and human health. Along with this, waste management also provides employment opportunities and opportunities to improve the economy. Dr. Kamala Malik, scientist of the Department of Microbiology has been made in-charge of the laboratory and Dr. Shikha Mehta has been made co-in-charge.
Dean of Basic Science and Humanities College Dr. Neeraj Kumar said that the biogas plant plays an important role in increasing the fertility of the land and meeting the shortage of fuel. HKV has modified the Janta model biogas plant run by cow dung and prepared a design that runs on fresh cow dung. By installing the modified biogas plant, the cost of space and money is less than other designs. It can also be installed in the courtyard of the house. On this occasion, all the scientists of the Microbiology Department including the Deans, Directors, Officers, teachers and non-teaching staff of various colleges were present.
