Rajindra Hospital Medical Superintendent HS Rekhi said the deceased protesting farmer, identified as Shubhakaran Singh, died of head injuries. Farmers claim that a young farmer has died in a clash with the police.
The death of the protesting farmers has worsened an already tense situation and opposition leaders have attacked the BJP-led central government over alleged mismanagement of the protests.

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) condoled the death of Shubhakaran Singh and alleged that “the government is responsible for the current crisis and loss of lives and property”. The farmers' organization has called a meeting of its National Coordination Committee and General Assembly today on 22 February to discuss the situation.
Members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Charuni) plan to block major roads across Haryana for two hours today in protest against the death of a farmer at the Dutt Singhwala-Khanauri border. Union chief Gurnam Singh Charuni has asked protesters to avoid confrontation with officials.
Haryana Police said protesting farmers in Khanauri set fire to stubble with chilli powder and attacked security forces with stones and sharp weapons. AIG (Administration) Manisha Choudhary said in a statement that 12 policemen were seriously injured in the attack and the poisonous smoke containing chilli caused difficulty in breathing for the policemen and reduced visibility.
Traffic between Chandigarh and Delhi is severely disrupted due to farmers' protests. This has created transportation related challenges. Speaking to news agency ANI, the Union Agriculture Minister said that a solution can be found only through continuous dialogue. We are always ready to talk. Our doors are always open for farmers. I appeal to the farmers union to move forward through talks to find a permanent solution to all the issues.
Agriculture Minister Munda said that the Central Government is ready to discuss all the issues raised by the farmers. He invited the farmers for the fifth round of talks and requested to find a solution through talks.
Arjun Munda said that we are ready to discuss all the issues like MSP, crop diversification, stubble issue, FIR. I invite farmer leaders for discussion again. “I appeal to them to maintain peace and we should find a solution through dialogue,” he said.
