New Delhi: The CBI has arrested former DHFL director Dheeraj Wadhawan in a Rs 34,000 crore banking fraud case, officials said in a statement. A group of 17 banks were defrauded.
He told that Wadhawan was arrested from Mumbai late on Monday night.
Today the court produced him in the court and sent him to judicial custody.
The former DHFL director and his brother Kapil were arrested on July 19, 2022. On October 15, 2022, the agency had filed a charge sheet against a total of 75 people including Kapil and Dheeraj.
However, he was granted bail on December 3, 2022 as the investigation was incomplete and the charge sheet filed was incomplete. This decision was also upheld by the Delhi High Court.
CBI challenged this decision in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court rejected the decisions of the Special Court and the High Court, terming them flawed.
Meanwhile, Dheeraj Wadhawan was granted interim bail by the Bombay High Court on medical grounds and was admitted to Lilavati Hospital for treatment. After completion of the security period given by the court, CBI arrested Wadhawan.
